Do I Have a Spark Guard? Ask an Apex Chimney Repair Blog

November 11, 2018

If you have a chimney cap you are required by code to also have a spark guard. Also known as a spark arrestor, these screens attach to the cap to help prevent sparks or other hot debris from exiting the chimney and catching fire to the roof of your home. A spark arrestor should be the correct size as well, too big and debris can go through the holes and to small smoke and debris will become stuck, causing performance issues to your home. These caps and arrestors can not only save your roof from fire damage but also help prevent wildlife from entering your chimney or home.  If your home does not have a spark guard or caps contact your local chimney sweep to see about installation of one today.
